Dr. Luis Barcos is a Veterinary graduated from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1983.
From 1984 to 1999 he performed activities related to cattle for breeding and genetic management improvement of Hereford, Braford and Braham pedigrees’. He managed 100.000 bovine cattle within 1.000.000 hectares of different Argentine zones, the Sub-Tropical Zone which includes the Provinces of Corrientes, Entre Ríos, Santa Fe, San Luis, the Pampa Humeda zone, which includes La Pampa Province, and the zones of the Patagonia, which includes the Provinces of Neuquén, Santa Cruz, and Tierra del Fuego.
In addition he was Executive Secretary of the Argentine Chamber of Insemination and Embryos Transplant and Technical Director of the Artificial Insemination Center.
He was Technical Advisor in cattle reproduction of SANOFI and RHONE MERIEUX Laboratory.
He has also worked as ad-hoc advisor to the Livestock and Agriculture Commission of the Argentine Parliament.
He was President of the National Service on Quality and Food Safety of Argentina (SENASA) and Delegate from Argentina to OIE, as well as Secretary of the OIE Regional Commission for the Americas.
He was member of the OIE Ad-hoc Group on Veterinary Services quality.
He participated as speaker and assistant of different scientific and technical conferences.
He was Member of the OIE ad-hoc Group on traceability and animal Identification.
Currently, Dr. Barcos is the Regional Representative of the OIE for the Americas.
